Now to answer the original question "does debt ever take a holiday"?  The answer is "no", the interest rate clock just keeps on ticking and adding up.  However, there is a bright spot on the horizon.  We just experienced it.  Credit card companies don't call on Christmas day.  Oh well another 295 days to go until the phones are silent again for at least 24 hours.
